Make haste to live

This was an ok noir. Dorothy McGuire is terrified after she learns that her ex-husband has just gotten out of prison. He went to prison for her murder only she never went forward with the news that she was alive. She just took her daughter and ran for it. He pretends to be the uncle of the daughter while making clear to Dorothy that she is going to get what's coming to her. There's a lot of tension in the movie but it had a cop out ending. It could of, should have been better. Still it's 3 out of 5, an average movie.

A Girl in a Million

This dated British film could have been better. It's about a man who leaves his nagging wife to room with some men. He comes across a dumb girl and falls in love. SPOILER: Once she starts to talk again, she's a nagger too. The film has a bleak cynical view of women. If they didn't make Joan Greenwood a nagger the film could have been an ok British comedy. It's a shame because the performances in this movie were good. The film leaves an aftertaste.

Ladybug Ladybug

This was a good movie by the writer (Eleanor Perry) and director (Frank Perry) of David and Lisa. While it wasn't as amazing as David and Lisa it was all right. A nuclear attack warning goes off at a rural school so the children are sent home for the day. Tension happens as the teachers and the children wonder if the nuclear attack is really for real. Some of the children show selfishness and cruelty towards each other as the day goes by. Apparently some of the writing by the children was improvisating by the actors. I'm glad this was made in black and white as that help creates the bleak mood of the movie. It's worth a watch.

Blind Date

This was ok but the worst of the Joseph Losey movies I've been watching lately. This is about a painter who is accused of the murder of the model he was having an affair with. I thought Micheline Presle did a good job. I liked her in Devil in the Flesh. It was nice seeing her play the older woman. There are plenty of twists and turns. Like I said it was worth watching but not one of Joseph Losey's best.

The Sleeping Tiger

I've been watching Joseph Losey's movies lately and I've been enjoying myself. This one is about a patient that has an affair with his therapist's wife. Only the therapy works and the wife doesn't handle the breakup well. There are fine performanes by all. I've always felt Alexis Smith was underrated and Dick Bogarde plays a bad boy well. I like how the therapist isn't necessarily a good guy either (he's cheating too) and how that all builts up to the film's conclusion.

The Crowded Day

This British movie from the 1950's concerns the life of female employees at a department store. The only story I cared about was the one concerning the pregnant girl with the psychotic mother in law. I feel there hasn't been enough movies about women working with other women in the workplace. My favorite of that subject so far is Les Bonnes Femmes.

The Prowler

I've been getting into director Joseph Losey's movies lately. This was a great movie. It concerns a psychotic cop played excellently by Van Heflin. While searching for a prowler he becomes acquainted with the lonely Evelyn Keyes whose husband is a late night radio host. The two embarked on an affair. Heflin gets away with murder when he claims the shot on her husband was accidental. She marries him. But when she becomes pregnant their affair will become all too obvious to the public. He comes up with a scheme the problem is she reads into his past actions. I've already been impressed with Heflin before but Evelyn Keyes was pretty good too. 3.5/5
