Kitten with a Whip

I just finished the Wade Miller book.  It was fun.  I watched this movie about ten years ago and had to rewatch it.  I think the book's better but it's a blast.  Ann-Margret is a lot of fun as the girl who has run away from a detention center.  She breaks into a politician's home.  She makes his life hell.  It's a good adaptation of the book as well.

Cry Terror

Rod Steiger convinces James Mason to build a bomb for an airplane flight.  Then he kidnaps their family.  The wife has to get them the ransom money.  The scenes where she's driving with the ransom money trying to get to the location are tense.  It's a good thriller.  Inger Stevens is really a lovely discovery in this movie.  I've seen The Twilight Zone episodes with her.  I wish someone would release her tv show The Farmer's Daughter onto DVD.  I'm curious about it.

Wild River

Montgomery Clift plays a man who has to tell a group of people to move away.  A dam needs to be built. Jo Van Fleet is against moving.  He gets interested in her granddaughter Lee Remick who is a young widow.  The performances are the best part about this quiet movie.

Lilies of the Field

Sidney Poitier won an Oscar for this and he does a truly great job.  He plays a drifter who promises to build a church for a few of the nuns.  He also teaches them English.  He gets several people involved in building the church.  It's an enjoyable film and it has a cute sense of humor to it.

The Reluctant Saint

My sister got The Reluctant Saint.  I wasn't expecting much but it turned out I really enjoyed it.  Supposedly based on a true story it's about a stable boy who gets turned into a priest and then a saint.  He's not bright which is why the priest around him scoff at him.  But when he starts levitating they say it's of the devil although they are really jealous of him.  Maximillan Schell has a truly great performance.  I'm now a fan and will look into his movies in the future.

Dance, Fools, Dance

After their father dies, Joan and her brother get jobs.  She works as a reporter and he works for the mob.  She meets Clark Gable who is a horrible mobster.  Cliff Edwards plays her reporter friend.  (He's best known for playing Jimmy Cricket.  I own a cd of him.  He's a good musician. He does a good job.)  Clark and Joan pull this movie together.

In Gay Madrid

Ramon Novarro stars in this early talkie musical.  This movie is pretty boring and it didn't do anything for me.  Ramon actually is a good singer though.  He tries his best.  I'm glad Warner Archive is releasing all of these Ramon Novarro movies.  He was a good actor who died a tragic death.  If you want a better film of him check The Red Lily.

Supernatural

Carole Lombard's brother has died so she goes to a dishonest spiritualist seeking to reconnect with him.  Carole becomes possessed by a murderer who has just been executed, looking for revenge on the spiritualist.  Carole Lombard is good in this role.  She mostly did comedies so it was nice to see her in a different role.

Hitler's Madman

This was Douglas Sirks' first movie.  It's war propaganda.  I admit that don't know much about World War II and this would have been more enjoyable if I did.  I got lost sometimes in this movie.  It was all right.  I saw Patricia Morison in a photographs of movie stars book when I was ten.  I've been waiting to see one of her movies.  Now I finally have.  Ava Gardner plays an extra and I noticed her immediately.  There's better Douglas Sirk films.  I recommend Hitler's Children for better war propaganda.
