Virtue

Carole Lombard falls for Pat O'Brien when he doesn't think she's a prostitute but an unemployed girl.  Soon she's a housewife and he's saving up for a gas station.  However, her backstabbing friend Shirley Grey takes advantage of her.  Carole is soon in prison for a murder she didn't commit.  Everything gets wrapped up in the end though.  Shirley Grey was pretty good as the bad girl.  I'll have to research the movies she was in.

My Brilliant Career

I rewatched this Australian movie that I really liked when I was a teenager.   It's about an independent eccentric who turns down the suitors she gets until she finally meets a cool guy Sam Neill.  However, she just can't settle down to marriage.  She has to make something of herself.  She became a writer.  I'm going to read the autobiography it was based on soon.

My Foolish Heart

This was loosely based on J.D. Salinger's story "Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut." That story was much better than this movie.  Hayward plays a pregnant girl who marries someone to cover up her secrets.  Susan Hayward did an ok job in this movie but it wasn't that great.

My dear secretary

This is a pretty bad screwball comedy.  A blonde Laraine Day jumps at the chance of being the secretary to writer Kirk Douglas.  They get married despite not having any chemistry.  I was introduced to Gale Robbins in this movie who was a real beauty.  Laraine Day is an ok actress but so far most of the movies I've seen her in have been bad.

Bus Stop

This is one of Marilyn Monroe's better performances.  A country boy goes to the city to go to the rodeo and to get a wife.  When he sees Marilyn he decides it's her.  She's an angel.  Basically, the guy's a controlling jerk.  I didn't like him at all.  What surprised me about this movie was Hope Lange.  Marilyn Monroe's beauty is already acknowledged but Hope is pretty in this too.  I included Hope on an Amazon list of mine over ten years ago.  The list was about underrated actors.  She is good in this.  She plays another person on the bus.  This movie is also worth it for Hope Lange fans.

Love aaj kal

This is an ok Indian movie. Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone depart ways.  Saif heads for a job at the Golden Gate Bridge and Deepika into marriage.  However, over time both of them realize that their love was stronger than they thought.  Saif meets an elderly man who tells him of his love back in the 60's.  So there are two stories going on.  This movie is only around 2 hours which is short for a Bollywood movie.

Five against the house

This was just an ok movie.  Actually, it's probably one of Guy Madison's better movies, although Bullwhip is a guilty pleasure.  (Guy Madison was one of the best looking male actors of the 50's.)  A group of college guys (who don't look of college age) plan to rob a casino and return the money.  However, Brian Keith has other plans in mind.  Kim Novak plays Guy Madison's girlfriend. Kim Novak was dubbed by Jo Ann Greer who did a bunch of dubbing in the movie industry at the time.  Her voice is pretty good.  I need to pick up the Jasmine collection sometime.

Golden Earrings

When I was 11 I was fascinated by Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo.  I watched most of their films and would look through biographies of them just for the pictures.  I thought they were two of the most beautiful women who have ever lived.  Marlene is fun but this movie is just so-so.  Ray Milland and Marlene have both been in better movies.  Milland plays a British spy and Marlene plays a gypsy.  She dresses Ray as a gypsy for cover.
