No Orchids for Miss Blandish

This movie was pretty good.  It's about a rich girl who gets kidnapped and falls for one of her kidnappers.  It was later remade into the even better movie The Grissom Gang with Kim Darby.  Linden Travers is lovely here and does a good job as the heiress.  The endings are different in both versions although they are both incredibly sad.

Gigolettes of Paris

This turned out to be a disappointing talkie.  Madge Bellamy stars here as a blonde.  She's not that good here and I loved her as a silent actress.  She plays a girl who wants to get back at the boyfriend who dumped her.  The print I watched was pretty bad and I usually don't care about that sort of thing.  There are better Madge Bellamy movies.

Hal Roach Forgotten Comedies

There's a reason these comedies are forgotten.  This features Turnabout, The Housekeeper's Daughter, and Road Show.  Carole Landis, an underrated lovely actress of the 40's, is featured in two movies here.  There's a lot of talent on this disc Joan Bennett, Adolphe Menjou, and Patsy Kelly.  It's just that the movies are mediocre.  Recommended only if you're a Carole Landis fan.

Dil Chahta Hai

This is one of the best Indian movies I've seen.  I watched this ten years ago and just rewatched it. I was more impressed with it the second time around.  The movie is about three friends and their love lives.  One of them is involved with an older woman.  Another is in love with Preity Zinta, who by the way is one of my favorite Bollywood actresses.  However, she has a controlling fiancee.   Not all of the stories end the way you expect.  I'm glad I'm getting back into Indian cinema after a ten-year hiatus.   I should have continued watching.

The Most Beautiful

I have watched Rashomon a few times. (It's a great movie.)  However, I admit I'm not really familiar with Akira Kurosawa's work.  (Actually, I need to learn more about Asian cinema in general.)  However, this early movie of his was boring.  It's a propaganda World War II movie about women working in a factory.  I would say this is a movie to watch if you're only a fan of his not as an introduction.

The Girl on the Bridge

I've been watching Hugo Haas' Cleo Moore movies so I was interested in one of his non Cleo movies.  He directs and stars in this one.  This was good.  It's about a pregnant girl who gets offered a job from a watchmaker.  They eventually get married only the father of the baby comes back.  Blackmail and accidental murder happen and the guilt is too much for the watchmaker.  Hugo was pretty good in the main role as the watchmaker.

Parineeta

I'm trying to become educated in Indian movies as I barely know anything about them.  Lately, I've been getting one current movie (which means for me the past 20 years) and an old one every month on Netflix.  Unfortunately, with this one more than 40 minutes of the movie was edited.  I liked what I watched though.  I just wish I could have watched the whole thing.  In this, a poor man takes out on a loan from a wealthy man.  The wealthy man's son becomes involved with the poor man's niece.

Wide Open

I got this for the actors and they did a good job.  Unfortunately, this movie was pretty poor.  Louise Fazenda, who I love, plays the frumpy girl who is into Edward.  Patsy Ruth Miller plays the boss' daughter and love interest.  Patsy Ruth Miller is most known for The Hunchback of Notre Dame.  Her talkie career didn't last long but it should have.
