Smart Woman

I've been indifferent to Mary Astor as an actress but I really liked her in this one.  After going on a cruise ship Mary finds out that her husband has been cheating on her.  She decides to take a weird reaction.  She tells her husband to invite the woman and her mother over. Mary acts like everything's cool. Meanwhile, a man she met on the cruise ship starts visiting her which makes her husband jealous.   This movie is only 68 minutes but it's smart and witty.  I liked it.

Maisie Collection volume 2

I watched two movies from this collection.  It's the second collection that has been put out.  It wasn't really my thing but Ann Sothern does have charisma. All I knew about Ann previously was from her tv work in My Mother the car.  In Swing Shift Maisie Ann is into Jean Rogers' man.  However, she doesn't make advances because of their friendship.  It turns out though that Jean is really a villain.  Jean Rogers is really good in this role. In Maisie gets her man Red Skelton almost takes the audience's attention away from Ann.  Maisie is an actress who can't find work and Red and her team up.  They end up working for a mineral water company.  I probably won't be watching another Maisie movie but I'm glad I gave it a try.

The Baroness and the Butler

When I got this I thought I was getting My Man Godfrey part 2.  I wish.  The main problem is that I didn't think Annabella had "it."  Perhaps it was just the role though.  She did star in a movie with Jean Gabin and I will have to see that.  William Powell plays a butler in parliament who opposes his master and the Hungarian government.  I didn't hate this movie.  I was just indifferent to it.

Deluge

There's a tsunami that happens around the world.  A husband is separated from this wife Lois Wilson.  He comes to love Peggy Shannon.  But his wife survived the tsunami.  What is he supposed to do?  This movie was just ok. The problem is that the acting gets wooden at times.

Woman against Woman

Herbert Marshall divorces Mary Astor.  She's manipulative like for instance, she tries to get it so he can't see their kid.  He falls for Virginia Bruce but Mary tries to destroy their happiness.  This movie's really short, only 60 movies.  I enjoyed it.  I got introduced to Virginia Bruce in Brazil a few months ago.  She's a good actress.

The Romance of Rosy Ridge

I didn't care much for this picture.  I'm not a fan of Van Johnson so that could have something to do with it.  This movie deals with life after the Civil War between the North and the South.  The main reason to watch this is because of Janet Leigh. It was her first movie.  She looks very young here.  However one of my favorite movies Holiday Affair stars a young Janet Leigh too.  I recommend that instead of this movie.  It's interesting to note that Norma Shearer discovered Janet.  That makes Norma even cooler in my book.

Escape

Robert Taylor wants to rescue his mother Nazimova (I really liked her in the silent era) from a concentration camp.  He meets an American duchess Norma Shearer who he thinks might help him.  However, Norma finds her husband is more sinister than she thinks.  There are a few twists in the movie as Robert finds out ways to help his mother.  This was one of Norma's last movies and she's quite good in the role.
